2014 Gold Coast Cultural Precinct Masterplan

The 2014 Gold Coast Cultural Precinct Masterplan presents a design that embraces the city’s egalitarian and celebratory character while cleverly addressing its evolving cultural facility needs.
While the Masterplan continues to provide guiding principles, Council decisions relating to Stage 1 have changed some aspects of masterplan layout and staging (refer Stage 1). Any provision of commercial and residential on site would be subject to future council decisions.

THE 2014 Gold Coast Cultural Precinct Masterplan will guide staged delivery of this vital project.
It includes all the elements of the 2013 international design competition-winning concept by ARM Architecture and Topotek1, including the Art Tower, expanded performing arts facilities and the outdoor Artscape. And it integrates allied uses for an active, vibrant 24-hour precinct which will become a must-visit destination for residents and visitors. These uses could, over time, include an art hotel – a tourist attraction in its own right – along with creative industries, media and educational facilities, accommodation and cafes.
The Masterplan draws on the design team’s leading competition concept, additional studies by expert consultants, input from stakeholders and feedback from the community over more than a year. It will become the blueprint which guides evolution of the precinct over 10 to 15 years, as funding is identified and as the city’s artistic and cultural needs grow. Importantly, it allows the city to progress detailed design for Stage 1, to enable delivery ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™.
